In the Sizihwan Tunnel near NSYSU, a Japanese colonial era military base that had been hidden for approximately 100 years was publicly unveiled on November 11, 2017. To celebrate the 37th anniversary of NSYSU, an activity titled “Walking into a mysterious place and walking along Sizihwan” was held.
NSYSU celebrated the 90th birthday of the emeritus Professor Kwang-Chung Yu. The birthday party saw the premier of the first documentary about Professor Yu and Hong Kong. The filmmaking team spent several months producing the 40-min documentary depicting Professor Yu’s 11-year literary career in Hong Kong and his literary works and life as a teacher. Professor Yu and his wife attended the premiere. The university also invited the emeritus professors Serena Jin and Wai Leung Wong, library staff, and friends of Professor Yu in Hong Kong to attend the premiere.
Professor Kwang-I Ying from the Department of Music and Professor Chi-Cheng Cheng from the Department of Mechanical and Electromechanical Engineering first creatively used music to paint by converting sound parameters (detecting the frequency, amplitude, and strength of a musical instrument) into visual points, lines, and surfaces through an algorithm.
Professor Shui-Kai Chang of the Institute of Marine Affairs has recently elected as the vice chairman of the International Scientific Committee (ISC).
Dr. Gloria Jumamil-Mercado, currently the Undersecretary and Executive Director, Office of the Cabinet Secretary, Office of the President, Republic of the Philippines, is the recipient of 2017 Distinguished Overseas Alumni of National Sun Yat-Sen University. During her visit to NSYSU, Dr. Jumamil-Mercado made a presentation of her dissertation: “Philippines-Taiwan Relations in the One China Policy: An Analysis of the Changing Relations Pattern” in the College of Social Science.
