Financial Times Top Asia-Pacific Business Schools: College of Management at NSYSU, the Only Taiwanese School Listed for Two Consecutive Years

The Financial Times of the United Kingdom published the 2018 Asia-Pacific Business School Rankings on December 3rd of the same year. The College of Management, National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU), ranked 9th in the Masters in Management (MiM) rankings and 17th in the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) rankings. It was ranked 21st overall in the Asia-Pacific region. The College of Management at NSYSU is the only Taiwanese school to make this list, and has made the cut for two consecutive years.

This year’s ranking criteria are based on five global rankings, namely the MiM, EMBA, global master of business administration (MBA), Executive Education Ranking of open-enrollment programmes (Open ExecEd), and Executive Education ranking of customised programmes (Custom ExecEd) published by the Financial Times. The MiM, EMBA, and Global MBA rankings each account for 25% of a school’s total performance, whereas Open ExecEd and Custom ExecEd each account for 12.5%. Using this data, the Financial Times produces the list of the top 25 business schools in the Asia-Pacific region.

Among all the criteria, the MiM and EMBA rankings are based on the business college of each participating school and a survey on its alumni who graduated 3 years previously. The Department of Business Management, NSYSU, was ranked 100th in the MiM list, with superior performance in the percentage of faculty with doctorates, career counseling, and international student exchange program/internship experiences. The EMBA program of NSYSU was ranked 86th in the global rankings, with high performance in terms of salary increase, ratio of women on the board, and ratio of international members on the board of the MBA program.

The Antai College of Economics & Management of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the China Europe International Business School, and the National University of Singapore Business School were ranked the top three business schools in the Asia-Pacific region for 2018. The school with the most substantial improvement, the SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business, moved from 13th to 6th this year. The NUCB Business School is the first school in Japan to have entered the list and was ranked 25th, a placement equal to Lingnan College at Sun Yat-sen University. Among all the 25 colleges on the list, 11 are in China (an increase of 4 schools from last year), 3 are in Singapore, 4 are in India, 3 are in Australia, 3 are in South Korea (an increase of 1 school from last year), 1 is in Japan, and 1 is in Taiwan, namely the College of Management of NSYSU.
