Renovated archery field at NSYSU is now open!

More students and teachers can go and try their hands at archery! The new archery field on campus is now open. Students and teachers of the University were invited to join a fun competition during the opening ceremony. The NSYSU Archery Team has had an outstanding performance in the past 10 years, having won a gold medal as a team in the Universiade, and 4 gold and 3 bronze medals in the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games 2019. After renovation, the field is open for the Archery Team and Archery Club to practice! We hope that this discipline on campus will flourish!

According to Physical and Health Division, Office of Student Affairs, the field will be used for archery courses and for the trainings of the Archery Team and Archery Club. To make full use of the space, targets were situated on both extremities of the field. The targets by the bleachers, with the wall behind them acting as bunker, are meant for training in long-distance shooting and for mock competitions. The number of people engaging in archery at the University has been steadily growing this year. For the past three years, there have usually been around 60 students attending basic and advanced courses every semester. Besides, the field is used by about 30 members of the Archery Team and approximately 100 members of the Archery Club.

Back in the days, archery classes were organized in the Gymnasium. However, the spot was repurposed, and since then the classes were moved to other locations: the track field, the beach by the Marine Center, and for some time, even to the archery field in Nanzi District. Finally, the University decided to renovate the existing tennis court to be used as an outdoors archery field. In the front of the field there are bleachers, separated from the practice wall located in the back of the field, so as not to disturb people in the surroundings. The total length of the area is 73 meters: it is perfect to practice for long-distance archery competitions, which maximum shooting distance is 70 meters.

The practice of archery at NSYSU has a long history. In 1986, archery talents started appearing in large numbers. In 2017, the Archery Team won 5 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal in the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games, 3 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze medal the next year, and 4 gold and 3 silver medals this year. Member of the NSYSU Archery Team Yuan-Hshin Lin said, that no other sports are practiced on the renovated field. He hopes that in the future, the Archery Team will perform even better. Another member, Yen-Fang Ko said, that with a new field, there will be more time to practice, even during evenings.
