Currently, parties reached an agreement on academic research, international exchange and joint organization of academic conferences. In the future, with the cooperation strengthening, NSYSU and the University of Hamburg may cooperate further to organize a joint dual-degree program to cultivate talents.

NSYSU actively promotes internationalization. The Institute of Education and the Center for Teacher Education invited Dr. Ingrid Gogolin from the University of Hamburg to be one of the keynote speakers at the 2018 International Conference of Taiwan Education Research Association & Global Association of Chinese Creativity (TERA-GACC 2018). Then, the College of Social Sciences of NSYSU and the Faculty of Education of the University of Hamburg signed a MOU on cooperation, which is a turning point in the cooperation between Taiwan and Germany. The University President Ying-Yao Cheng and the Director of the Institute of Education Hsueh-Hua Chuang together with the team of International Graduate Program of Education and Human Development visited the University of Hamburg to discuss the project of dual-degree program and bilateral academic cooperation with the Director of the Faculty of Education Dr. Eva. Arnold, Dr. Gabriele Kasier, Dr. Gobert Rieger, Dr. Stephen Mckinney and Dr. Myriam Hummel.

President Cheng emphasizes that the students have to connect with the outer world; this will increase the competitiveness of the graduates. Director Chuang said that with the Ministry of Education promoting the project of bilingualization of Taiwan, the University needs to cultivate bilingual talents. Thus, 36.4% of Master credit courses and 40% of Doctoral courses at the Institute of Education at NSYSU are taught entirely in English. Director Chuang encourages students to pursue international dual degree at NSYSU and to go overseas to study.

Presently, the Institute of Education at NSYSU has an agreement on joint dual-degree program signed with the University of Ghent (Belgium). Since Director Chuang took office, she has been actively discussing cooperation on joint dual-degree programs with Northern Illinois University and Iowa State University. Newly-established International Graduate Program of Education and Human Development is the first Ph.D and Master program on education fully taught in English in Taiwan. This year the program starts recruiting international students. We hope that by teacher-student mentoring, the program will cultivate talents with high research capacity and help the students understand modern education theory and put knowledge into practice when working in education.

The Institute of Education at NSYSU and International Graduate Program of Education and Human Development actively promote interdepartmental cooperation. Currently, there are three Doctoral courses fully taught in English at the Institute of Education.
