First issue of English-language NSYSU Newsletter connects the University with the world
The Office of Secretariat, NSYSU, is going to send out the August 2020 issue of National Sun Yat-sen University Newsletter, the first issue of the bi-monthly English-language newsletter. The columns of the Newsletter include ‘Headline News’, ‘People’, ‘Highlights’, ‘Research’, ‘International Exchange and Cooperation’, and ‘Teaching, Learning, Achieving’. The publication is expected to strengthen the University’s ties with the world and enhance its international visibility, let partner institutions and international scholars get to know the NSYSU better, and draw international attention to its excellent academic capacity.

“This year, the ranks of the University are the best in its 40-years history!”, said NSYSU Senior Vice President Shiow-Fon Tsay. She said that several rankings reflect the enhancement of NSYSU’s academic capacity over the years. NSYSU is one of five universities in Taiwan with the most subjects entering QS World University Rankings by Subject in the past two years, together with National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University, National Tsing Hua University, and National Chiao Tung University. In this year’s ranking of Taiwan’s 30 top universities by Global Views Monthly, National Sun Yat-sen University ranked 5th, pushing National Central University down to 6th rank. What is worth mentioning, NSYSU ranks high in indicators related to mobility, considered a key capacity of future professionals: 2nd for the number of full-time students of dual-degree programs, and 4th for the international faculty ratio and the proportion of outbound exchange students. This proves the success of the University’s internationalization policy promoted in recent years.

The University does not rest on its laurels and further strengthens its ties with the world to be acknowledged as an outstanding higher-education institution. For this purpose, Public Affairs Division, Office of Secretariat, compiled and edited the content of the first English-language National Sun Yat-sen University Newsletter, and is planning its prompt publication thanks to the website design support of the Office of Library and Information Services. NSYSU is the only university in Central and Southern Taiwan to regularly publish an English-language newsletter. This is a milestone in the international promotion of the University, as the newsletter is not only going to be sent to the students and faculty but also international scholars, visitors, and NSYSU’s partner institutions to introduce recent research and educational achievements. Chief Secretary Yu-Chen Yang said that the tonality of the newsletter is a reference to the dark red of the brick-wall buildings of the University and the deep blue of the ocean of the Sizihwan Bay.

The content of the English-language National Sun Yat-sen University Newsletter is subdivided into various sections. On the top of the page is the most important headline of the past two months. The ‘People’ column includes interviews with the University’s international faculty. The ‘Highlights’ section introduces the University’s most important achievements and progress in academic affairs, while ‘Research’ reports the developed technology and research results published. ‘International Exchange and Cooperation’ focuses on advancements in internationalization, such as agreements on cooperation signed with overseas institutions. ‘Teaching, Learning, Achieving’ presents the educational activities of the students and faculty.
