Forum on Smart and Safe Technologies for Electric Scooters Rental to help achieve environmental sustainability goals on campus
To create a green, smart campus with low-carbon footprint, NSYSU, as the first university in Taiwan, started cooperating with UrDa mobi, a brand by Ahamani EV Technology and built electric scooter rental stations on campus, offering free rides of up to 10 minutes to teachers, staff, and students, with the purpose of solving the transportation and pollution problems on campus and responding to sustainable development goals.
The Forum on Smart and Safe Technologies for Electric Scooters Rental (智慧安全共享之電動機車科技論壇), organized at NSYSU, invited the Minister of Transportation and Communications Chia-Lung Lin, Deputy Mayor of Kaohsiung City Charles Lin, NSYSU President Ying-Yao Cheng, Senior Vice President of the University I-Yu Huang, Vice President for General Affairs Yuan-Chung Lin, and people of the industry, government, and academia connected with smart electric scooters. The participants explored smart technologies in electric scooters and discussed how to promote the advancement of the scooter industry with new technologies, such as Smart Roadside, Internet of Vehicles, smart dashboard, and cloud driver assistance system, and debated on how to increase the international competitiveness of the electric scooter industry in Taiwan. On spot, the participants could try out the scooters by UrDa mobi – a local brand, and listen to the expert’s commentary. The rental system offers a convenient service, allowing users to return scooters at any station.
NSYSU President Ying-Yao Cheng pointed out that from 2016, several rental stations with electric scooters were established on campus for the students, staff, and teachers to use. In the past three years, the scooters have become an indispensable transportation tool at the University. There are also many rental stations outside the campus all around Kaohsiung: by the Lotus Pond, Cijin Island, Pier-2 Art Center, Hamasen, in the city center, Zuoying and Nanzi districts. “Electric scooters are good for the environment, don’t emit noise and exhaust gases and are the best transportation choice for residents and tourists", said Ahamani EV Technology representative.
“To rent the scooter, it is enough to download an application. The scooters are easy to ride even for first-timers!” The battery-charging stations look different than other scooter rental stations, are effectively managed and merge with the city landscape. This rental system made the Ahamani EV Technology become the only company to receive an award in the category of smart transportation at the 2017 Smart City Summit & Expo. The service aims at responding to the needs of Kaohsiung residents and tourists.
