Students’ food delivery platform Eatsy to accept online payment soon
2021-12-09
(Report by student journalist) Eatsy, a food delivery platform for NSYSU students, has officially been launched. Second-year master students of the Department of Business Administration: Yu-Hsun Yang and Le Chen, and second-year master students of the Department of Information Management Fang-Hsuan Su and Ping-En Chung and a first-year student Tzu-Ting Cheng formed a team and designed a unique smart pick-up system for food takeaway at in-store prices with a low delivery fee; it also has special offers on holidays. It is a new food delivery option for NSYSU students.
To enjoy food delivery service from Monday to Friday, students register with their NSYSU email address. Eatsy users can place an order from 2 p.m. the day before to 10:20 a.m. on the same day, and if they reach the minimum quantity for a group order, they can pick up their meal between 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the smart pick-up station located on the first floor of the College of Management by scanning the QR code with their smartphone. This new platform saves students the trouble of finding people to place a group order and the time to go out to eat. The innovative way to pick up the delivered takeaways is also its big advantage.
The team member in charge, Yu-Hsun Yang, said that nowadays, many food delivery platforms claim to offer in-store prices, but actually have prices NT$ 5~10 higher, which, combined with high delivery costs, makes takeaway delivery a luxury. In contrast, Eatsy only charges a 10% service fee, and occasionally offers free delivery. The smart pick-up station makes delivery easier as the deliverer and the orderer don’t have to worry about no being able to find each other, helps users keep social distance during the pandemic, and makes the pick-up time very flexible. In addition, the team often organizes special events for NSYSU teachers and students, such as free drinks on Halloween for those with eligible names or free shipping for users who achieved a 100% score in midterm exams.
The former version of Eatsy, “TakeOutPlz”, founded by NSYSU students, was suspended after the team members graduated. Recently, the project was restarted by five master students of the College of Management who improved its drawbacks based on their experience, introducing a smart pick-up station and pre-paid payment option to make pick-up faster and avoid crowds. The group’s supervising teacher, Dean of the College of Management and Professor of the Department of Information Management San-Yih Hwang said that he hopes that Eatsy will solve the inconvenience of food delivery for students and that the project will support the food store owners around the NSYSU campus, fulfilling its corporate social responsibility. He also expressed his gratitude to the Intelligent Electronic Commerce Research Center for supporting the project.
Since its trial run in September, over 500 users registered in Eatsy. The platform collaborates with 6 restaurants and 1 drink shop. The collaborators gave very positive feedback; Yuanfu Yakiniku Rice was very supportive of the project, offering a free poached egg to those who checked in the location on social media, and a free portion of veggies for Eatsy users. Tzu-Ting Cheng, who is a cash flow engineer, mentioned that originally, Eatsy required pre-payment before ordering, but now, for even more convenience, an online payment system will be officially launched on December 13, hopefully attracting more users.
