French students of Sciences Po Bordeauxshare share their exchange experience at NSYSU

(Report by student journalist) “Taiwan is a great country!”. A sister institution of National Sun Yat-sen University in France - Sciences Po Bordeaux organized an event for the students to share their experience of exchange abroad in 34 different countries with younger classmates, talk about the culture and environment. NSYSU is the only partner institution of Sciences Po Bordeaux in Taiwan. Three students shared their exchange experience at NSYSU; they were enthusiastic about the Dragon Boat Team.

Sciences Po Bordeaux requires all second-year students to go abroad for exchange and organizes a yearly “International Meeting” to gather the third-year students who did exchange the previous academic year to share their experience with younger classmates and let them know more about other countries. “Little monkeys are very cute, unlike the big ones. You have to hide your things so they don’t get stolen”, said Steffi. Monkeys were definitely her lifetime memory from NSYSU. Asked, what are the interesting things at NSYSU, she took out her phone and showed a video of monkeys she recorded. She said, that if she could come to NSYSU again, she would definitely try dragon boat racing, as it is not only a Chinese culture experience but also great physical exercise and teamwork practice, as it requires the members to join hands and compete with other teams. NSYSU Office of International Affairs established the International Dragon Boat Team. The Team competes in the Dragon Boat Festival, organized every year, and has won 11 times in a row.

“If I come to Taiwan again, I will surely catch this opportunity to travel to different places”, said Marianne. During her time at NSYSU, her roommate told her about many great places to visit in Taiwan, such as a coral island close to Kaohsiung - Little Liuchiu, where sea turtles live. The transportation in Taiwan is really convenient, cheap and clean. Marianne also said that Taiwan is an important hub in South-East Asia; it’s close to Japan and Korea on the north, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines to the south. “During my stay in Taiwan, I also visited other East and South-East Asian countries”.

“International Meeting” was organized at Sciences Po Bordeaux by Erasmix, an international student exchange society. “That year made me grow; it was a very valuable year for us who went for an exchange abroad”, said Julia, a member of Erasmix. She said that the aim of the event was to recall their exchange experience and reflect on the progress they made during that time.
