Distinguished Professor Yuan-Chung Lin of Institute of Environmental Engineering obtained Outstanding Engineering Professors Award by Chinese Institute of Engineers

(Provided by the Office of Research and Development) Distinguished Professor Yuan-Chung Lin of the Institute of Environmental Engineering obtained the 2020 Outstanding Engineering Professors Award of the Kaohsiung Branch of the Chinese Institute of Engineers for his outstanding contribution to engineering practice and teaching in Taiwan. The award ceremony is scheduled for August 2020.

For many years, Distinguished Professor Lin has devoted himself to green energy, air pollution reduction, and circular economy. He previously obtained numerous awards for his teaching at National Sun Yat-sen University, academic research, and industry-academia collaboration. He was also awarded gold medals of the International Warsaw Invention Show in Poland and of the International Salon of Inventions and New Technologies in Ukraine. In 2016, he received gold medals of the Hong Kong International Invention and Design Competition, Macau International Innovation & Invention Expo, and 30th World Genius Convention & Education Expo in Tokyo, Japan.

“Who is successful in one's studies, can become an official”, says a Chinese proverb. Distinguished Professor Lin was the Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Tainan City Government between December 2018 and January 2020. He actively participated in improving the air quality in Tainan and was invited to the 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP25) to share the policies of Tainan City Government regarding energy transition and air quality improvement, which helped Tainan become a sustainable sponge city. Upon return to the University, Professor Lin filled the position of Vice President for General Affairs and of the Director of the Center for Emerging Contaminants Research.
