NSYSU co-organizes the Virtual 2020 Taiwan Higher Education Fair in the Philippines to invite Filipino students to study in Taiwan

Taiwan Education Center in the Philippines (TEC-PH), together with National Sun Yat-sen University, is holding the Virtual 2020 Taiwan Higher Education Fair in the Philippines from September 15th to October 15th. The Fair attracted a record number of 66 public and private higher education institutions in Taiwan to participate. Its website's intuitive interface features a search engine for quickly finding suitable universities and allows posting inquiries to university representatives and getting timely responses.

Despite the still severe epidemic in South-East Asia and international travel restrictions, Taiwan's Ministry of Education continues to reinforce the collaboration and connection between Taiwan and the Philippines in higher education. Thus, the Fair in the Philippines was held online for the first time. Ambassador Mr. Michael Peiyung Hsu of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines said that he hopes the Fair will promote exchange in higher education between Taiwan and the Philippines and invite more Filipino students to come to study in Taiwan and become "goodwill ambassadors."

NSYSU President Ying-Yao Cheng, as the organizer's representative, pointed out that Taiwan has been very effective in dealing with the epidemic, which makes Taiwan a safe choice for Filipino students who wish to study abroad. Mr. Andy Cheu-An Bi, Director General of the Department of International and Cross-strait Education, Ministry of Education, announced via a video on the Fair website that the Ministry will increase the budget of the Taiwan Scholarship and the Elite Scholarship programs for Filipino students to study in Taiwan.

To help Filipino students understand the quality of higher education in Taiwan, the interface of the website of the Fair allows users to search universities by field of study and location and provides all necessary information about the related universities and programs. What's more, students can make further inquiries to specific universities and receive timely responses. The organizers have also prepared lottery drawings every Friday for students who like and share Facebook posts and post questions on university pages. NSYSU and TEC-Philippines hope that the Fair can act as a connecting platform for education and send out a message to the world that even in difficult times, Taiwan and the Philippines continue to strengthen their friendship and bilateral exchange.
