Digital Archive New Media Technology Exhibition tells NSYSU’s history

(Provided by the Office of Library and Information Services) Let's celebrate the 40th anniversary of National Sun Yat-sen University! Starting from November, the Digital Archive New Media Technology Exhibition is open in the Exhibition Room on the 3rd floor of the Info-Library Building. The Exhibition is organized by the Office of Library & Information Services (OLIS) and features a timeline showing the University's major events, an interactive projection of the campus map, and an AR caricature drawing of all former University Presidents. The Exhibition applies digital technology to record and display the University's past in an interesting way to the faculty, staff, and students.

OLIS said that each office has some materials and documents that show the University's history from its establishment in 1980 until 2020: valuable old photographs, documents, newspaper cuttings, and audio and video materials, documenting the struggles and efforts of the people of the University.

The valuable items are digitalized and stored in a cloud database as a permanent archive – NSYSU Digital Archive. A total of 973 collected materials was made available in September, and the collection continues to increase.

Besides establishing the Digital Archive, OLIS used the collection to launch the NSYSU Digital Archive New Media Technology Exhibition. The Exhibition was inaugurated by President Ying-Yao Cheng and senior leadership of the University.

President Ying-Yao Cheng said that thanks to the technology, the digital archive was made possible. NSYSU faculty, staff, and students can recall their youth and happy moments at the University. These historical materials are of priceless value to the University. Vice President Wei-Kuang Lai said that all collected materials have already been stored in the CONTENTdm developed by the Online Computer Library Center and can be found using Google search engine, which improves the visibility of NSYSU on the Internet.

NSYSU Digital Archive New Media Technology Exhibition interactively displays old materials using digital technology. Visitors can see the old and new University emblems, the University's major events, an interactive projection showing the University's establishment and buildings' development, experience AR interactive photo ops, and play games. The Exhibition also includes NSYSU publications and graduation robes. The Exhibition also displays the anniversary logo and design that refers to the form of the Sizihwan Bay's characteristic landmark. The Exhibition is now open to visit until February 24th, 2021.
