NSYSU signs MOU on scholarship cooperation with French Office in Taipei

2021-10-26

To strengthen the bilateral exchange between Taiwan and France, especially in science and engineering, NSYSU signed a scholarship cooperation agreement with the French Office in Taipei. The scholarships will encourage more outstanding students to go to France for short-term exchange and to study double-degree programs.

NSYSU partners with 26 French universities and grande écoles, all of them with student exchange programs and 4 with double-degree programs. Before the epidemic outbreak, each year, there were 30 to 40 NSYSU students going on exchange and 80 French students coming to NSYSU. Under the scholarship agreement, NSYSU will provide each student with a scholarship of up to NTD 90,000 per semester (NTD 90,000 for 5-year Bachelor + Master Program students and NTD 60,000 for other students), while the French Office in Taipei will cover students' round-trip air tickets and a welfare scholarship during their stay in France. Students will also be exempt from Campus France interviews and student visa fees. The program offers an annual quota of 10 students. The welfare scholarship entitles the students to the status of the French government's funded students, including a reduction or waiver of university registration fees and priority for student housing.

The scholarship agreement was signed by NSYSU President Ying-Yao Cheng and the Director of the French Office in Taipei Jean-François Casabonne-Masonnave. Joining the signing ceremony was the delegation of the French Office in Taipei: Head of Culture, University Cooperation and Education David Kibler, Scientific and Academic Attachés Jérôme Bove, Sasha Ting, and Antoinette Neyra, and NSYSU representatives: Dean of the College of Science Ming-Jung Wu, Dean Hsi-San Lai and Associate Dean Wan-I Yang of the College of Liberal Arts, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering Yi-Jen Chiu, Associate Dean of the College of Management Shu-Chuan Yeh, Assistant Professor François Bouchetoux, Associate Professor Francois Lucien Leon Muller and Assistant Professor Pierre-Alexandre Château of the College of Marine Sciences, Dean of Si Wan College Hong-Zen Wang, Director of the Institute of Social Innovation Shih-Chian Hung, and Vice President for International Affairs Chih-Wen Kuo.
