Over 200 management scholars exchanging experiences in MOST results presentation meeting
(Provided by College of Management) The Department of Information Management, College of Management, National Sun Yat-sen University, was commissioned by the Management II Division of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (DHSS) of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) to organize the presentation of the results of case research projects at the EMBA Center in the Info-Library Building on campus. The event gathered more than 200 scholars specializing in information management, production and operation management, and marketing management from all over Taiwan to exchange and share experiences.
Vice President for Research and Development Professor Chua-Chin Wang delivered an opening speech. He said that NSYSU’s College of Management was listed as one of the 1000 most influential business schools and universities in the world according to Eduniversal, a higher education ranking by a French consulting company. Not only did it win Four Palmes of Excellence in 2019, but also, was ranked among the top three business schools in Taiwan, along with National Taiwan University and National Chengchi University. “This is a great acknowledgement of the internationalization of the College.” In addition, the number of projects approved by MOST this year was about 48.3%; the approval rate has been maintained at a very high rate every year.
The event was convened by Professor Yeu-Shiang Huang, the convener of the Management II Division, DHSS, MOST. In his speech, Professor Huang said that this year’s event was different than the previous editions in that it commemorated Lifetime Chair Professor of the Ministry of Education (MOE) Ting-Peng Liang of NSYSU Department of Information Management. Dean of the College of Management Professor San-Yih Hwang, Professor Chih-Ping Wei of Information Management Department of National Taiwan University, and Professor Deng-Neng Chen of National Pingtung University of Science and Technology shared their memories with Professor Liang and his philosophy.
Professor Huang further pointed out that Professor Liang received multiple honors and served at NSYSU for 30 years since 1991; he was responsible for the Intelligent Electronic Commerce Research Center, acknowledged and funded by MOE, and managed to obtain large research funding for the University every year. Also, Dr. Ting-Peng Liang Memorial Laboratory for Neuroscience Decision and Management was inaugurated to grasp future research trends. The academic contribution of Professor Liang to the Management II Division included the promotion of academic and international connections of the Asia-Pacific region and is worth passing on to next generations.
The DHSS, MOST, is committed to raising the standards of basic academic research in humanities and social sciences in Taiwan, and each year a results presentation is held for the scholars who applied for funding of Management II Division in the past year. This year's presentation featured a keynote speech by Ming-Jen Lin, Professor at the Department of Economics at National Taiwan University and Director-General of DHSS, MOST, who introduced the work of DHSS in recent years and elaborated on Taiwan’s vision for science and technology by 2030 – “Innovation, Inclusiveness, and Sustainability”. Sustainability stands for an innovative society driven by digital technology; Inclusiveness, for a pluralistic and inclusive society that encompasses various cultures, ethnicities and generations; finally, Sustainability stands for a sustainable society that recycles, strives for zero pollution, is smartified and resistant. Besides, results presentations by domestic scholars in three major areas were held: information management, production and operation management, and marketing management.
The Management Discipline of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Science and Technology is divided into Management I, Management II, Finance and Accounting, and Regional Research. The Management II Division is subdivided into sub-fields: Marketing, Operations Research / Quantitative method, Production and Operations Management, Transportation Management, Information management.
