NSYSU remains one of top 100 according to QS World University Ranking by Subject: Engineering-Petroleum
According to the 2022 QS World Ranking University by Subject, announced by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), National Sun Yat-sen University has remained one of the top 5 universities in Taiwan for the past four years, along with National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University, National Tsing Hua University, and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. NSYSU remains the preeminent performance since the last year, totally 17 subjects have been listed. In addition, NSYSU appreciates the honor to be the only school listed in Taiwan by Petroleum Engineering, remains one of top 100 universities in the world.
Among the 1543 universities evaluated by QS, totally 25 universities in Taiwan are listed. According to the global ranking, NSYSU is listed one of the top 500 universities in the major fields including Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences & Management. In the field of Social Sciences & Management, NSYSU ranks #314, going up 32 places since 2021.
Regarding the ranking in Taiwan, NSYSU enters the list of the top five universities by subjects, including Petroleum Engineering #1, Agriculture & Forestry #3, Economics & Econometrics #3, English Language and Literature #4, Mathematics #5, Accounting & Finance #5, Business & Management Studies #5.
QS World University Ranking by Subject assesses the performance of universities each year in the five major fields: Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences & Medicine, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences & Management. The data is analyzed based on the indicators including academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper and H-index. This year, the index of IRN (International Research Network) has been assessed for the first time, indicating the importance of international academic cooperation.
NSYSU President Ying-Yao Cheng emphasized, that NSYSU has entered the QS ranking in all the five major fields by different subjects, and has been heading up in the ranking of Social Sciences & Management. In addition, there is notable improvement regarding ranking of Taiwan, by subjects of Biological Sciences as well as Materials Sciences. The ranking evidently proves the academic and research contribution of NSYSU.
Director of the Office of Institutional Research, Shiao-Wei Kuo pointed out that the globally recognized data of ranking and published academic results has successfully strengthened the reputation for NSYSU. The school has put much effort in studies of materials sciences, physics, chemistry, marine and environmental sciences and information & communications technology. Totally 44 NSYSU researchers are included in the list of World’s Top 2% Scientists 2020 regarding the impact of published academic results.
