In a significant stride towards strengthening international academic cooperation in marine science and biotechnology, the Department of Marine Biotechnology and Resources successfully hosted Dr. Judita Koreiviene, a researcher from the Nature Research Centre of Lithuania, from December 4th to 8th, 2023. 

This visit was a follow-up to an initial exchange initiated in October 2022, when NSYSU's President, Prof. Ying-Yao Cheng, led a delegation of 26 administrative and academic staff to Lithuania. The visit encompassed three universities and research centers and spanned a diverse array of academic fields, including materials science, photonics, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, medical technology, chemistry, physics, biological sciences, marine science, politics, international relations, education, and management.

During her stay in Taiwan, Dr. Koreiviene visited the Agricultural Biotechnology Research Center of Academia Sinica South Campus on December 5th, where she gained an in-depth understanding of its greenhouse facilities and the core infrastructure of the Mass Spectrometry Research Center. Subsequently, she was guided on a tour of NSYSU campus by Dr. Hsiu-Chin Lin of the Department of Marine Biotechnology and Resources. She then attended a presentation by Dr. Kwee-Siong Tew of the International Doctoral Program in Marine Science, who introduced the overview of plankton research in Taiwan. Later, Dr. Chih-Chuang Liaw further led a tour of the department's specimen exhibition room and the outdoor aquaculture field of the College of Marine Sciences.

In the evening, a dinner was hosted by Dr. Yuan-Bin Cheng, Chair of the Department of Marine Biotechnology and Resources, to welcome Dr. Koreiviene and her husband, along with department faculty members, fostering deeper interpersonal connections.

On the afternoon of December 7th, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Dr. Koreiviene delivered a public lecture during the undergraduate seminar session of the department. Her topic, "How to Convert Environmental Problems in Aquatic Ecosystems into Valuable Products from Algal Biomass," captivated the audience. Following the lecture, she engaged in a brief discussion with Dr. Wei-Chih Lin before departing for Taoyuan, awaiting her departure from Taiwan the next day.

After returning to her country, Dr. Koreiviene posted a short news article on the Nature Research Centre website documenting her visit to Taiwan.

This academic exchange not only solidified the cooperation between the Department of Marine Biotechnology and Resources and the Nature Research Centre of Lithuania but also paved the way for future international collaborative ventures. Both institutions look forward to leveraging this exchange to propel further research in marine science and biotechnology, contributing significantly to the advancement of the study of the field globally.
