National Sun Yat-sen University's (NSYSU) Graduate Institute of Arts Management and Entrepreneurship (AME) has once again partnered with the Federation for Asian Cultural Promotion (FACP) to assist in the planning and execution of various administrative affairs for the FACP international annual conference. To continue broadening students' international perspectives, NSYSU selected graduate students Yen-Ni Lin and Shih-Man Huang to participate in the conference preparation as part of an international internship. This initiative provided students with invaluable hands-on experience, fostering arts management talents with technological foresight while also paving the way for new industry-academic collaboration models.
The Federation for Asian Cultural Promotion, as Asia's longest-standing platform for arts and culture, has been committed to promoting cultural and artistic exchange and development across Asian countries since its inception. The 2024 FACP international annual conference was themed "Beyond Borders, Beyond Imagination – Today's Arts Tech." The event gathered cultural leaders and representatives from Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan to discuss the current state and future prospects of the arts in Asia.
This marks the second time of collaboration between NSYSU's Graduate Institute of Arts Management and Entrepreneurship and FACP. Building on 2023's success, graduate students Yen-Ni Lin and Shih-Man Huang played a key role in organizing the conference, demonstrating exceptional professionalism and execution skills. They took on responsibilities equivalent to those of a ten-member team, covering a wide range of tasks including pre-conference planning, on-site administration, financial management, event marketing and publicity, media relations, and the execution of the "Pitch for New Aspects—Clare C. & Friends Fellowship" project.
During the months-long preparation period, the two students not only had to meticulously plan and execute various administrative tasks but also had to maintain real-time communication with arts and cultural representatives from different countries, coordinating their needs. Their responsibilities encompassed designing promotional materials, structuring event flow, arranging accommodations and transportation, handling on-site crisis management during the conference, and compiling post-event reports. Their outstanding professionalism and execution ensured the event's smooth and successful completion. The FACP Secretariat highly praised their performance, commending their strong sense of responsibility, efficiency, and remarkable capabilities in cross-cultural communication and international affairs—qualities that highlight their potential as emerging arts administrative talents.
Yen-Ni Lin, one of the participating interns, described the experience as an invaluable learning opportunity. "Being part of such a significant international conference allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of how global arts events operate and sharpen my cross-cultural communication skills. The workload was undeniably heavy, but seeing the event conclude successfully made all the hard work worthwhile." Shih-Man Huang echoed similar sentiments, noting that the internship provided firsthand experience in every aspect of international conference organization. "From pre-event planning to execution, every detail was a learning experience. Particularly, working with international representatives deepened my appreciation for the professionalism and global outlook required in arts management. These experiences will be immensely beneficial for my future career."
Professor Jasper Hsieh, Chair of the NSYSU Graduate Institute of Arts Management and Entrepreneurship, emphasized that promoting international arts and cultural exchange has always been a key focus of the Institute. Through practical collaborations with global organizations like FACP, students gain firsthand experience in organizing international conferences while honing their cross-cultural communication skills and global perspectives—laying a strong foundation for future careers in arts administration.
Next year's FACP annual conference will be held in Bucheon, South Korea. Building on the success of this collaboration, NSYSU will continue selecting outstanding graduate students to participate in this international internship program. This rare opportunity not only equips students with valuable experience in global event planning but also enhances their professional international profiles, positioning them for future opportunities in the evolving field of arts and technology. This industry-academia collaboration model serves as an innovative approach to cultivating Taiwan's next generation of arts administrative talents with a technological vision.
