NSYSU partners with Zettabyte to mobilize Taiwan's AI talents
2026-10-02
National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) has partnered with global AI computing company Zettabyte Co., Ltd. (Zettabyte), with Zettabyte donating AI computing equipment and its zSUITE AI software resources to NSYSU for use in teaching, research, and AI computing. The two parties signed the donation agreement today (2nd) at the university. In the future, all colleges and departments across the university will be able to access the zSUITE platform, allowing faculty and students to not only experience AI computing environments but also gain practical experience in high-performance computing and data center management.
Zettabyte is a company specializing in AI computing and data center infrastructure, providing GPU computing infrastructure and software solutions to assist in managing AI computing environments and GPU resources, and supporting large-scale AI workloads. The donated zSUITE is its software platform, which can be used for computing cluster management and monitoring.
NSYSU has 10 colleges, with academic fields spanning Liberal Arts, Science, Engineering, Management, Marine Sciences, Social Sciences, Medicine, Semiconductor and Advanced Technology Research, and Banking and Finance. The university established the Artificial Intelligence Research and Promotion Center in 2019 and has continued to advance AI teaching, research, and industry-academia collaboration since then. As AI research and applications have developed rapidly, colleges and departments across the campus have progressively built GPU computing capacity for course teaching, student projects, and funded research programs.
This time, Zettabyte is providing NSYSU with a royalty-free license to the zSUITE platform. The software will be installed on NSYSU's own servers, covering all colleges and departments across the university. zSUITE can assist in managing computing clusters, monitoring system operation and energy usage, allowing administrators to understand the usage of computing resources such as GPUs and allocate them as needed. For faculty, students, and research teams, a stable computing environment can reduce the burden of resource management, allowing more time to be devoted to teaching, research, and experiments.
According to statistics from the research institution Epoch AI, the training compute of representative AI models in recent years has roughly doubled every 6 months. As the scale of AI models continues to increase, computing resources and data center management have become an important foundation for AI development. The government is also advancing the "10 AI Initiatives Plan," with the key goal of making Taiwan rank among the world's top 5 computing centers. This collaboration allows students to experience real-world computing environments and cluster management tools while on campus, gaining a deeper understanding of the technologies used in industry through classroom learning.
Chih-Wen Kuo, Senior Vice President of NSYSU, emphasized that the university will continue integrating its internal AI and high-performance computing resources and deepening technical exchanges and talent-development partnerships with industry to provide a more robust computing environment for teaching and research. The university will also encourage researchers across disciplines to leverage AI and high-performance computing for research and innovative applications, thereby cultivating more AI and high-performance computing talent for Taiwan.
"The AI technology leaders of tomorrow are in Taiwan's frontier university AI labs today," said Kenneth Tai, Founder and Chairman of Zettabyte. "Giving cutting-edge professional AI tools and AI computing to universities, professors, researchers, and students is the most impactful contribution we can make."
"This AI computing and AI software donation will aid in Taiwan's technical advancement, its frontier science discoveries, and ultimately help nurture the development of a robust AI talent pool," said Rocky Lee, Director of Zettabyte and the principal architect of the AI computing donation program.
"The development of AI needs not only algorithms and applications but also a stable and reliable computing environment," said Chun-Wei Tsai, Associate Vice President of the Office of Library and Information Services and Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of NSYSU. "This collaboration will help faculty and students across disciplines make better use of computing resources and cultivate talent with both theory and practice."
