66 scholars from NSYSU are listed among World's Top 2% Scientists

Stanford University researchers have released the 2024 "World's Top 2% Scientists" list, identifying 66 scholars from National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU). Four of these scholars are ranked first nationwide in Taiwan within their respective fields on the "Career Scientific Impact Rankings (1960–2023)." These top-ranking scholars include Chen-Tung Arthur Chen, newly elected Academician of Academia Sinica and Distinguished Chair Professor from the Department of Oceanography, ranked 5th globally in Oceanography; Kin-Lu Wong, National Chair Professor of the MOE and Professor from the Department of Electrical Engineering, ranked 169th globally in Networking & Telecommunications; Peter Brimblecombe, Emeritus Chair Professor from the Department of Marine Environment and Engineering, ranked 450th globally in Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences; and Gordon C. C. Yang, Honorary Emeritus Professor from the Institute of Environmental Engineering, ranked 202nd globally in Strategic, Defense & Security Studies.
In the "Single Year 2023 Scientific Impact Rankings," which emphasizes single-year paper citation counts, NSYSU had 37 scholars featured, demonstrating strong performance across various fields. Of these, 17 also appeared in the Career Scientific Impact Rankings. Key highlights include Professor Chen-Tung Arthur Chen from the Department of Oceanography, ranked 7th globally and 1st in Taiwan; Professor Shiao-Wei Kuo from the Department of Materials and Optoelectronic Science, ranked 89th globally and 1st in Taiwan (Polymers); Professor Chao-Min Chiu from the Department of Information Management, ranked 86th globally and 1st in Taiwan (Information Systems); and Professor Cheng-Hsien Li from the Institute of Human Resource Management, ranked 387th globally and 1st in Taiwan (Social Psychology).
NSYSU stated that the listed scholars' expertise spans 12 fields and 29 subfields, demonstrating the University's outstanding interdisciplinary academic performance. The 12 fields include Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry; Biology; Chemistry; Clinical Medicine; Earth & Environmental Sciences; Economics & Business; Enabling & Strategic Technologies; Engineering; Information & Communication Technologies; Physics & Astronomy; Psychology & Cognitive Sciences; and Social Sciences.
The "World's Top 2% Scientists" list compiled by Professor John P.A. Ioannidis' team at Stanford University based on Scopus citation data, analyzing the impact of researchers worldwide. This year's ranking includes two lists: the "Career Scientific Impact Rankings (1960–2023)" and the "Single Year 2023 Scientific Impact Rankings," which differ in citation periods, with the latter only accounting for citations in the year 2023.
