Lithuanian Delegation Visits Taiwan for In-Depth Semiconductor and Cultural Exchange 2025 Taiwan Semiconductor Study Tour Highlights Taiwan’s Technological Strength and Cultural Diversity

2025-07-11

To strengthen bilateral cooperation between Taiwan and Lithuania in education and technology, the 2025 Taiwan Semiconductor Study Tour, funded by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and organized by National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU), took place from June 25 to July 3. The program brought 24 Lithuanian participants—including 18 students and 6 faculty members—for a nine-day immersive experience in Taiwan, combining academic, industrial, governmental, and cultural engagements.

The tour covered five key areas: expert-led lectures on semiconductor technologies, site visits to leading companies such as ASE Group, tours of Taiwan’s top research institutes including the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute, National Center for Instrumentation Research, and National Space Agency, as well as campus visits to NSYSU, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, National Cheng Kung University and Center for Crystal Research. Through these activities, participants gained firsthand insight into Taiwan’s world-class strengths in semiconductor education, research, and industry.

The group also paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and visited iconic cultural landmarks including the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Dadaocheng, Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, and the Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung, offering a rich immersion into Taiwan’s diverse cultural heritage.

In addition, participants viewed the acclaimed documentary“A Chip Odyssey,” which chronicles Taiwan’s journey to becoming a global semiconductor powerhouse. The film sparked meaningful discussions among students and faculty, offering a deeper appreciation of the challenges and visionary leadership that shaped Taiwan’s high-tech success.

For most in the delegation, this was their first time in Taiwan, and they were deeply impressed by the country’s innovative education system, comprehensive industrial ecosystem, cultural richness, and culinary diversity. Several participants expressed admiration for Taiwan’s ability to integrate cutting-edge technology with a vibrant and open society, and shared hopes to return for further academic or professional collaboration.

NSYSU noted that this study tour not only facilitated the exchange of academic and industrial knowledge, but also helped build meaningful friendships and mutual understanding between the people of Taiwan and Lithuania. The university hopes that programs like this will inspire the next generation of Lithuanian students to explore opportunities in Taiwan and strengthen future cooperation in science, technology, and international education.

NSYSU extends its sincere appreciation to Representative Constance H. Wang of The Taipei Representative Office in Lithuania and Director Shun-Fen Tzeng of the Office's Science and Technology Division for their strong support in promoting the program. Special thanks also go to National Cheng Kung University for its invaluable assistance with student recruitment and outreach, which made the successful planning and execution of this program possible. The study tour stands as a concrete milestone in advancing Taiwan–Lithuania educational and technological relations and marks a step forward in the growing partnership between the two countries.
