(Provided by the Office of International Affairs) National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) continues to advance its internationalization strategy in higher education. NSYSU officially inaugurated the Khon Kaen Base of the Taiwan-Thailand International Talent Circulation Base (INTACT Base) at Khon Kaen University (KKU) in Thailand, marking a significant milestone in Taiwan-Thailand collaboration in higher education and industry-academia partnerships. The opening ceremony was presided over by KKU President Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, demonstrating the university's strong commitment to bilateral cooperation and signaling a new phase in Taiwan-Thailand collaboration in international talent cultivation and academic exchange.
The INTACT Base is a cross-border collaboration platform jointly promoted by three Taiwanese universities—National Sun Yat-sen University, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, and National Chung Hsing University—with support from Taiwan's Ministry of Education. Among them, the Khon Kaen Base is established and operated by NSYSU, with full support from KKU's Faculty of Science. Moving forward, the base will serve as a key hub for promoting the International Industrial Talents Education Special Program (INTENSE Program), student exchanges, industry-academia matchmaking, and Mandarin language education, implementing an innovative international model that integrates learning with practice and facilitates cross-border talent mobility.
In his remarks, President Charnchai Panthongviriyakul noted that the establishment of the INTACT Base will not only enhance Thai students' international mobility and career competitiveness, but also further strengthen Khon Kaen University's overall capacity in international collaboration and industry engagement. He expressed strong recognition of and high expectations for the continued deepening of Taiwan-Thailand higher education cooperation.
NSYSU Vice President for International Affairs Ming-Hsuan Lee emphasized that the establishment of the Khon Kaen Base was not achieved overnight, but rather built upon years of stable academic exchange and mutual trust between the two institutions. Earlier this year, faculty members from KKU's Faculty of Science visited NSYSU's College of Science and Department of Chemistry, coinciding with Taiwan's launch of the Thailand-focused INTENSE Program. These interactions helped both sides reach a consensus on further strengthening collaboration. She also expressed sincere appreciation to KKU's administrative team and the Faculty of Science for their strong support, which made the successful establishment of the base possible.
Ann Y. H. Hsueh, Second Secretary of Education Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, attended the ceremony and affirmed the pivotal role of Taiwan-Thailand higher education cooperation in bilateral talent development and educational exchange. She expressed her hope that the INTACT Base would continue to strengthen talent linkages between Taiwan and Thailand and generate tangible outcomes in education diplomacy.
Clarence Yu, Manager of NSYSU's INTACT Base project, stated that the Khon Kaen Base will provide services including admissions consultation, academic and career counseling, promotion of the INTENSE Program, corporate internships and industry-academia collaboration matchmaking, as well as Mandarin language and cultural courses. Together, these resources will form a one-stop international service platform that students can practically utilize.
In addition to the opening ceremony, the event featured an information session on the INTENSE programs and invited NSYSU alumni to share their experiences studying and working in Taiwan, allowing students to gain a clearer understanding of Taiwan's academic environment and industrial landscape. The event also incorporated Mandarin language and cultural experience sessions led by instructors Chuan-Hsien Huang, Hsin-Yu Chang, and Wei-Hsin Tung from NSYSU's Chinese Language Center. The highly interactive sessions attracted enthusiastic participation from many KKU students.
NSYSU noted that the establishment of the INTACT Khon Kaen Base represents not only a significant achievement in Taiwan-Thailand higher education collaboration, but also a concrete demonstration of Taiwan's efforts to promote internationalization and strengthen industry-academia linkages. Looking ahead, NSYSU will continue to work closely with Khon Kaen University and Thai partners to expand the impact of the INTENSE Program, create more opportunities for Thai students to pursue further studies and career development in Taiwan, provide diverse and globally competitive talent into Taiwan's industries, and further deepen the long-term outcomes of Taiwan-Thailand education diplomacy.
